I completed my counselling training at Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology in 2004 graduating with a Diploma of Applied Counselling with Psychotherapeutic Studies and became a full member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellor in 2005.
Since then I have worked part time in private practice as well as providing counselling, facilitation, service development and supervision services to a range of social service agencies in the Nelson and Tasman communities. I also worked as a Family Violence Response Coordinator for the Ministry of Social Development where I had coordination, supervision and management support roles.
As part of my ongoing professional development I completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Counselling (Supervision) at the University of Waikato in 2013.
My initial counselling training included traditional modalities such as client centred and psychodynamic models and though this background informs my current practice I now draw on more modern and effective modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing.
